"The Stone Is Not a Sculpture—But Every Stone Was Once a Sculpture"

"The Stone Is Not a Sculpture—But Every Stone Was Once a Sculpture"

This has been my cry lately. I will give it voice in every way I can. As believers in God, what would we say are the extra advantages we have from having The Holy Spirit, the mind of Christ, and the wisdom of God? When you consider that we often go on very long fast, the question would be, how valuable are all these if all they give to us are things that other people can get without these advantages?

We must begin to reposition the generation of our children for a better use of all the gifts we have from God.

There’s a quiet arrogance in believing we “find” ourselves by accident. We don't stumble upon our purpose like loose change on a sidewalk. No — we carve it, chisel it, labor over it. Much like Michelangelo once said of his David, "I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free." So too must we carve away at ourselves.

Because here's the truth: a stone is not a sculpture, but every stone was once a sculpture. Within every rough, unshaped mass of potential lies a masterpiece — if only we dare to uncover it.

This is an admonition. A wake-up call. Too many people wander through life waiting to “become” something, without ever picking up the chisel.

1. Self-Discovery: The First Strike

Self-discovery begins not with answers, but with questions.

Who am I when no one is watching?

What brings me alive?

What wounds am I pretending not to carry?

What do I fear — and why?

Most people fear this process. They don’t want to look under the surface of the stone because they’re afraid of what they might find. But you must begin anyway.

How to discover yourself:

Journal regularly and honestly.

Sit in silence. Let your distractions starve.

Pay attention to your instincts, not your impulses.

Revisit your childhood memories — they hold clues to your core self.

Try many things; pay attention to what energizes you.

Self-discovery is not passive. It is the first strike of the sculptor’s hammer.

2. Self-Awareness: The Mirror Inside the Marble

Once you've unearthed pieces of yourself, you must confront them. Self-awareness is knowing not just who you are — but also who you are not. It’s standing naked in front of your own soul and neither flinching nor fawning.

Accept the beautiful. Accept the broken. Accept the contradiction.

To cultivate self-awareness:

Ask for honest feedback from people who love you enough to tell the truth.

Use tools like personality tests not as labels, but as lenses.

Practice mindfulness — learn to observe your thoughts without judgment.

Track your triggers: What makes you angry? Jealous? Ashamed?

Self-awareness is not self-obsession. It’s the clarity to see the rough edges that need refining.

3. Self-Development: The Relentless Sculpting

Discovery and awareness mean nothing without transformation. The sculpture is shaped through discipline, not dreams.

To develop yourself:

Set intentional goals that stretch you beyond comfort.

Learn consistently. Read books, take courses, study the masters.

Practice new habits until they become character.

Surround yourself with mentors and people who challenge you to grow.

Self-development is where pain meets purpose. It is hard. It is slow. It is sacred.

4. Self-Disbursement: Giving the Sculpture to the World

Your growth is not just for you. A sculpture hidden in the basement blesses no one.

Self-disbursement is the act of offering yourself — your healed scars, your wisdom, your beauty — to the world.

Ways to disburse yourself:

Mentor someone who's where you once were.

Create: write, teach, build, serve.

Live with integrity — be the same person in private and public.

Use your gifts for something greater than personal gain.

It’s not about being famous. It’s about being useful. A life that pours into others becomes immortal.

Final Word: Pick Up the Chisel

The stone is not a sculpture. Neither are you, yet. But within you lies something breathtaking.

So pick up the chisel. Begin the work.

Chip away at FEAR. Carve out the LIES. Polish the TRUTH.

Become the masterpiece that was always hiding inside you.

I'm TheCoachremi.

You may not look like it, it doesn't mean you can't become it.
